Birth in South Africa Workshops

Workshop: Supporting Physiological Births at Home

This is a little short notice, but I wanted to tell you all about a workshop I am giving on Thursday the 12th of September 2013. The workshop will be on Supporting Physiological Births at Home. In this morning workshop we will be discussing all aspects of this physiological birth and how to support it in the home environment, a subject which is very close to my heart.

Here are some of the points the workshop will cover:

Does our training as care providers prepare us in supporting a mother during a physiological birth?
Do we recognise the signs of good labour progress so as not to disturb the mother in being able to tune into her birthing body?
Do we feel the need to intervene in the labour process to placate our own fears?
What can we learn about the physiological birth process to be able to be of value to a labouring woman…..?

This workshop is aimed at Doulas, Midwives, Doctors and anyone who is present at a birth and would like to learn more about physiological birth and how best to support it.
