Siblings at Birth – The Travelling Midwife

Lorenzo and Teano

Today I bumbed into a client whose births I attended a few years ago. Karen happened to be driving past the gate as I stepped out of my Cape Town home. Seven years ago in Cape Town, Karen birthed Teano, her firstborn son,  in hospital and was home a few hours later. Second time around, Karen gave birth …

A Natural Twin Birth in Africa

An account of how Saba Douglas-Hamilton gave birth to her twins naturally according to her birth plan. When a mother is carrying twins, it is possible to give birth to twins naturally, without harm to either the mother, or the twins.

Stop Press – Twin Birth in Cape Town: The Travelling Midwife

Selkie and Bundi meeting the Twins for the first time

The twins we were waiting for have arrived. I arrived in Cape Town on the 25th may 2011 and the dues date for the twins was the 1st June 2011, although the mother had been having twinges. Finally the Mom went into labour early this morning and gave birth to beautiful twin girls, one born …

Twin Birth Plan

This is such a comprehensive Birth Plan that I have decided to post it after, of course, requesting permision from the couple who did their homework. The illustration below is a humerous take on the birth plan scenario and is not meant to imply that this mother wishes to have an epidural. In fact, this mother has …

Workshop Feedback May 2011

Our May Workshop was a delight and we spent one on one time with Leigh and Hans. Karene, our other participant, brought her curiosity, artistic flair and immediate understanding of the concepts taught to the group. We spent alot of time covering the theory around the mind-spirit-body paradigm and how the different levels of brain function …

Calm Birth: The Birth of Jai

He was not hurried or co-erced into this world, he was not meddled with, other than a deft movement of the fingers to unwrap the cord. The cord was not severed until it had stopped serving its function.

Spiritual Birth Philosophy

Women need to prepare for natural birth in every aspect of their lives, including the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical areas of their being. A woman deserves the right to choose her companions as well as where and how she will give birth to her child.

Pregnancy and birth are normal life events for most women. To this end, interventions should be kept to a minimum wherever possible. A baby who is born gently and welcomed by warm, caring parents receives the best possible start in life.

Women who are well prepared in their minds, bodies and spirits can experience birth as a profoundly moving and empowering event.
